Home Sweet Home?

The Mallards have suffered regulation defeats in each of their seven home openers since the team returned to the ice in 2009 following a two year interregnum during which the Quad City Flames competed in the American Hockey League. The Mallards are winless (0-7-1) in their last eight home openers. The Flock last started its home slate with a win on October 21, 2005 while in the United Hockey League when it downed the Motor City Mechanics 4-3 in a shootout.

Drought

The Mallards have been shut out in each of their last two home openers. They started last season with a 3-0 whitewashing at the hands of the Rapid City Rush at the iWireless Center on October 24, 2014.

Blanked

The Mallards last night were shut out for the first time this season. The Mallards' last blanking also came against Carr and the Oilers, who stonewalled the Mallards 2-0 on March 4. Carr made 31 saves in that game.

Tight

Each of the Mallards' first three games has been decided by one goal.

Bright Side

The Mallards have won their second home game each of the last three seasons.

Between the Pipes

Steve Michalek, who has started each of the Mallards' first three games, made 19 saves while suffering his first career regulation defeat last night.

Special Teams

The Mallards have gone 0-for-9 on the power play since Guillaume Gelinas scored his club's lone power play goal to date this season on the Mallards' second man advantage of the campaign at 9:24 of the first period of a season opening 2-1 win over Allen last Friday. The Mallards allowed power play goals in each of their last two games and have gone 9-for-11 on the penalty kill this season.

The Mallards last night fell in the first of their five meetings with the Oilers this season. After tonight, the two clubs next clash February 12 in Tulsa. All-time, the Mallards are 12-11-0 against Tulsa and have registered an 8-7-0 home record against the Oilers.
