Cameron Scores Twice in Swamp Rabbits Overtime Win

October 24, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

Greenville, S.C. - Bretton Cameron scored twice on Saturday including the game-winner in overtime to lift the Greenville Swamp Rabbits (2-1-0), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, to a 3-2 victory over the South Carolina Stingrays (1-2-1) at the North Charleston Coliseum. It was Greenville's second victory against the Stingrays in as many nights.

Cameron (2g), Ryan Rashid (2a) and Jack Combs (2a) each produced a multi-point game. In net, former Stingrays' goaltender Adam Morrison (1-0-0) made 24 saves for the victory in his Swamp Rabbits debut.

Following a scoreless first period in which South Carolina outshot Greenville 11-5, the Stingrays opened the scoring early in the middle frame with a shorthanded goal from Andrew Johnston. With Kyle Kraemer in the box for roughing, Joe Devin collected a loose puck in South Carolina's zone and set up an odd man rush into Greenville territory. Devin slipped a diagonal pass to Johnston on the left side for a quick shot past Morrison at the 2:52 mark.

The Swamp Rabbits responded just over six minutes later when rookie forward Brian Hart netted his first professional goal in just his second game. Davis Vandane and Rashid created the attack with quick passing in the Stingrays' zone before Rashid found Combs at the left post. Combs hesitated, drew goaltender Vitek Vanecek out of position and found Hart at the right post for a tap-in goal at 8:54 of the second period.

Kraemer put South Carolina back on top at 2:31 of the third period with his first goal of the season. Stephan Vigier centered the puck from behind Greenville's net into a scramble in the crease, where Kraemer flipped home a loose puck amid the chaos.

Cameron responded to even the game for a second time at 9:00 of the third period when he capitalized on a 3-on-2 rush into South Carolina's zone. At even strength, Domenic Alberga guided a lead pass to Cameron who intended to push a diagonal feed to Josh Nicholls at the back door, but the pass bounced off of a defenseman and slid under Vanecek's pads.

In the 3-on-3 overtime session, South Carolina received a bench minor for too many men on the ice at the 1:24 mark, leading to Cameron's second goal of the contest and the game winner. Rashid found Cameron at the doorstep, where the Swamp Rabbits' captain tipped home an airborne puck for the power play goal and game winner.

Greenville finished the contest 1-for-4 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill. Vanecek (0-1-1) made 22 saves in the overtime loss.

The Swamp Rabbits return to the Bon Secours Wellness Arena tomorrow to complete a three-game weekend series with a 3:00 p.m. faceoff against the Florida Everblades. The Greenville News Family Fun Pack is available for Sunday's game, which includes four (4) red-level tickets, four (4) hot dogs, four (4) bags of chips, four (2) fountain drinks and two (2) foam fingers.
