Rapid City, SD. - Despite a late rally from the visitors, the Colorado Eagles fell to the Rapid City Rush 3-2 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Friday night.

After a scoreless first period, Michael Young broke through for the Rush when he scored on a 2-1 attack at the 7:48 mark of the second period, giving Rapid City a 1-0 lead. Minutes later, Eagles goaltender Kris Lazaruk left the game with an apparent injury and was replaced by Jacob DeSerres.

The Eagles got a power play chance late in the second period when Zach Cohen took a tripping penalty. With 2:10 to play, Kyle Ostrow wrapped around the goal and placed the puck past Rush goaltender Danny Battochio tying the game at 1.

With 13:51 left in the game, Rapid City's Winston Day Chief scored his 50th professional goal, placing the puck past DeSerres off a deflection in front and giving the Rush a 2-1 lead. Minutes later, Dan O'Donoghue capitalized for the Rush when DeSerres misplayed the puck behind the net, as O'Donoghue wrapped around the net and fired the puck in the empty net with four minutes to go in the game.

Colorado came up with a quick answer when Jesse Mychan scored from the top of the crease on the power play to bring the deficit back to one goal with 3:05 to play. The Eagles pulled DeSerres in favor of an extra skater but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback.

The Eagles return home tomorrow night to host the Rush at the Budweiser Events Center at 7:05pm.
