Kalamazoo Wings News Release

CINCINNATI, OH- The Kalamazoo Wings showed fight, but fell victim to the Eric Robinson led Cincinnati Cyclones by a score of 4-1 on Saturday night at U.S. Bank Arena.

The first frame was highlighted by chances from both teams, as Kalamazoo looked to capitalize on a Cincinnati team that hadn't skated since October 17. Even with a plethora of opportunities created, Kalamazoo were unable to capitalize. Cincinnati leveled the play late in the frame and the two teams took a competitive, scoreless tie into the first intermission.

The Cyclones were able to shake off their rust early in the second period, with a power play marker from Branden Gracel (1), giving Cincinnati a 1-0 lead.

Just three minutes later, Cincinnati increased their lead to two goals on a tally by Christiaan Minella (2nd). The initial shot on goal by Minella was saved by Joel Martin, but the ensuing rebound elevated shoulder-high and was gloved by Darren Archibald into the Kalamazoo goal.

Kalamazoo took control of the game midway through the second period and were rewarded for their efforts on a hustle play created by Ludwig Blomstrand. Blomstrand's speed negated a delayed icing, and he was able to spin a centering feed to the tape of Justin Kovacs (1st), who calmly buried his first of the year.

With momentum building for Kalamazoo after two periods of play, Cincinnati stole it right back with an early goal in the third period. Capitalizing off a Wings' turnover, Robinson (1st) walked in on Martin and beat him with a rising wrist shot to give the Cyclones a 3-1 lead.

Cincinnati were able to put the game out of reach in the third period while operating on their third power play of the game. Steve Weinstein (1st) was able to flush a backhand past Martin and into the goal from a sharp angle off a feed from Peter Quenneville, giving the Cyclones an insurmountable 4-1 edge.

Notes: Eric Kattelus left the game in the first period after a fight with Jaynen Rissling. Kalamazoo went 0/6 on the power play. Cincinnati went 2/3 on the power play. Kalamazoo is 0-3-0-0 against the Midwest Division. Robinson had a season-high three points.
