Gameday: Adirondack vs. Manchester

October 24, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Adirondack Thunder News Release

Tonight is the season and franchise home opener for the Adirondack Thunder (2-0-0-0), as they host their division rivals the Manchester Monarchs (1-0-0-0). The Thunder come into tonight's action hot after two consecutive road victories to open the season, including a riveting 5-4 overtime victory last night against the Brampton Beast. Rob Bordson scored the overtime winner 58 seconds into the extra session to cap his three-point night and Kyle Flanagan and Ryan Constant added two assists apiece in the victory. Tonight's game is the first of 15 in the regular season between Adirondack and Manchester, in addition to two pre-season contests that the teams split two weeks ago.

Thunder Struck: The Adirondack Thunder moved to 2-0 on the season with an exhilarating 5-4 overtime win over the Brampton Beast last evening. Rob Bordson's game winner 58 seconds into overtime kept the Thunder perfect through two games.

Rarely Charted Waters: Adirondack professional hockey teams have started out 2-0 just three times over the last 15 seasons before this one. The 2011-12 Phantoms, 2005-06 Frostbite and 2000-01 Ice Hawks each opened their seasons perfect, with both UHL teams going on to 40-win and playoff bound seasons.

On The Bord: Forward Rob Bordson collected his second straight multi-point game last evening in Brampton with a three-point effort (2-1-3). Bordson's haul, which included the game winner in overtime, gives him five points (2-3-5) in the first two games of the season. Bordson is now averaging 1.4 points-per-game in 40 career ECHL games.

Let It Appleby: Goaltender Ken Appleby is off to a solid start in his professional career with wins in each of his first two starts. Appleby was stout between the pipes in the season opener against Elmira and made a number of clutch saves in last night's win over Brampton. The young goaltender has a 2.48 GAA and a .904 save percentage on the season.

Power Surge: The Thunder power-play unit is off to a blistering start with two goals in each of their first two games. The Thunder's 44% conversion rate is the best in the ECHL and their four goals are tied for a league high. Bordson leads the team with three power-play points (2-1-3), while Kyle Flanagan and Ryan Constant have two assists apiece.

Busy Weekend: The Thunder see no rest for the weary this weekend as they are in the midst of their first three-in-three set. After last night's game in Brampton, the Thunder finish off their weekend with a trip to Manchester tomorrow for a 3pm matinee with the Monarchs.
