South Carolina Stingrays News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC-Bretton Cameron tied the game midway through the third period and scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Greenville Swamp Rabbits a 3-2 win over the South Carolina Stingrays on Saturday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.

South Carolina held a 2-1 lead midway through the third period, but Cameron was able to even the score with his first of two goals. A cross-ice pass from Cameron was intended for a streaking winger on the far side, but the puck hit a Stingray defender and redirected into the goal at the 9:00 mark.

Both teams traded chances, but the game moved to overtime. The contest marked the first three-on-three overtime in Stingrays team history, but a too many men on the ice penalty assessed to South Carolina sent the Stingrays to the penalty kill.

Cameron would make the Stingrays pay, knocking in his third shot attempt over an outstretched Vanecek to give the Swamp Rabbits the win at 1:55 of the extra session.

The Stingrays held both 1-0, and 2-1 leads Saturday. Early in the second period, Andrew Johnston opened the scoring for South Carolina with a shorthanded goal. Joe Devin knocked the puck out to neutral ice where Johnston was waiting. The forward collected the puck and brought it up ice on a two-on-one rush. Johnston kept the puck for himself, firing a wrist shot that beat goaltender Adam Morrison past the blocker at 2:56.

The Swamp Rabbits would tie the game at 8:54 of the second period on tic-tac-toe passing that was finished off by Brian Hart for his first professional goal.

South Carolina took a brief 2-1 lead early in the third period on Kyle Kraemer's first goal with the club. A mad scramble in front of Morrison resulted in Kraemer finding a loose puck in the slot. His backhand shot beat the netminder past the right pad at 2:56.

Morrison, who spent parts of three seasons in South Carolina from 2012-2015, earned the win in goal stopping 24 shots. The Stingrays outshot the Swamp Rabbits 26-25 on the evening.

South Carolina was 0-for-5 on the power play while Greenville went 1-for-4.
