Iowa Eliminated from Playoff Contention in 7-4 Loss

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - The Manitoba Moose eliminated the Iowa Wild from playoff contention in a 7-4 decision at Canada Life Centre on Saturday afternoon.
Jeffrey Viel opened the scoring for Manitoba with a one-timer past Peyton Jones (32 saves) 3:18 into the game.
Dominic Toninato doubled the advantage with a shorthanded breakaway finish at 9:22 of the first period.
Manitoba outshot Iowa 13-12 in the opening 20 minutes and carried the 2-0 lead into the break.
The Moose added three more goals before the Wild broke through in the middle frame. Mark Liwiski made the score 3-0 at 2:44 of the second period with his first AHL goal.
Kristian Reichel added two tallies for Manitoba at 4:55 and 10:59 to make the score 5-0.
Michael Milne tipped a shot pass from Turner Elson under Thomas Milic (30 saves) on the power play with 5:26 to play in the period. Jack Peart earned his first AHL point on the goal with a secondary assist.
Manitoba outshot Iowa 26-16 through 40 minutes of play.
Caedan Bankier beat Milic under the blocker on an odd man rush with the Wild on the man advantage at 9:08 of the third to narrow the deficit to 5-2. Daemon Hunt picked up an assist on Bankier's goal.
Viel scored on an empty net from Manitoba's defensive zone at 15:46 of the third period.
Steven Fogarty responded with 2:00 remaining. Luke Toporowski forced a turnover behind the net and set up Fogarty, who pulled the puck to his backhand and slipped it under the blocker of Milic.
Sammy Walker found David Spacek in the high slot for a one-timer that made the score 6-4 with a minute to play.
Reichel ended the comeback attempt and completed the hat trick with an empty-net tally 11 seconds later.
Manitoba outshot Iowa 39-34. The Wild finished 2-for-6 with the man advantage while the Moose went 0-for-2 on the power play.
Iowa and Manitoba wrap up a weekend series on Sunday, Apr. 14 at 2 p.m. at Canada Life Centre.
