I-Cubs Come Out of Hibernation in Eighth Inning

Des Moines, Iowa - Trailing by four runs heading to the bottom of the eighth inning, the Iowa Cubs rallied for six runs and beat the Oklahoma City Dodgers, 7-5, Wednesday night at Principal Park.
The Dodgers led, 5-1, before Iowa rallied six runs and five hits in the eighth inning against OKC relievers Josh Sborz and Kevin Quackenbush, with the Dodgers also committing two errors. The rally started with a leadoff walk, and with runners at second and third base and none out, Mark Zagunis sent a dribbler up the first base line. Sborz fielded the ball, but his throw went into foul territory as two runs scored.
Happ greeted Quackenbush with a double to put runners at second and third base again with none out. Following a pop out, Taylor Davis singled up the middle to tie the game.
Two batters later, pinch hitter Donnie Dewees hit a line drive to right-center field that rolled all the way to the warning track. Second baseman Jake Peter's relay bounced near the plate and led catcher Ben Moore into Davis as Davis was approaching. Davis scored and so did Dewees once the ball was past Moore, putting Iowa ahead, 7-5.
Edwin RÃ-os singled with one out in the ninth inning, but Rowan Wick retired the next two batters to end the game and earn his sixth save.
Wednesday marked just the second time this season the Dodgers (42-54) lost a game when leading after seven innings. They also lost after leading by at least four runs for the fifth time this season.
The Dodgers controlled the game through seven-and-a-half innings thanks to the red hot bat of Gavin Lux and solid start by pitcher Dustin May.
With two runners on and two out in the second inning, Lux pummeled a home run to center field, marking his fourth consecutive game with a homer.
Iowa (55-42) cracked the scoreboard in the third inning. P.J. Higgins led off with a double and later scored on a two-out RBI single by Dixon Machado.
Lux turned another pitch around the fourth inning. With a runner on base, he sent a home run nearly out of the stadium past the seats in right field.
It was Lux's third overall multi-homer game of the season, but first with Oklahoma City. He also tied his career high with five RBI.
However, after Lux's second homer, the Dodgers did not score again and were held to three hits the rest of the game.
May allowed just one run and six hits over 5.1 innings in his third start since his promotion to Triple-A. He retired the side in order three times and notched eight strikeouts against just one walk in what ended up being a no decision.
Quackenbush (2-3) was charged with his first blown save of the season and allowed three runs Wednesday after allowing just two runs in his previous 21 appearances dating back to May 25.
Dillon Maples pitched a scoreless eighth inning for Iowa to earn the win. The I-Cubs bullpen combined for 5.1 scoreless innings and three hits, with nine strikeouts and no walks.
