Six-Run Eighth Leads I-Cubs to Victory

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (55-42) scored six runs in the eighth to beat the Oklahoma City Dodgers (42-54) by a final score of 7-5 Wednesday night at Principal Park.

Oklahoma City struck first in the second inning when Gavin Lux hit a three-run home run off Adbert Alzolay. This marked Lux's fourth straight game with a home run.

Iowa got a run back in the third when Dixon Machado singled in P.J. Higgins. Lux hit his second home run of the night in the fourth, a two-run blast to extend the Dodgers lead to four.

Alzolay left the game with an injury after just 3.2 innings pitched, allowing five earned runs on six hits, while walking five and striking out six. The bullpen kept Oklahoma City at five runs for the rest of the game allowing the offense a chance to comeback.

Iowa's offense did just that, scoring six runs in the bottom of the eighth on two singles, a triple, and two Dodgers errors. Rowan Wick allowed one hit in the ninth but earned his sixth save of the season.

POSTGAME NOTES:

- Adbert Alzolay struggled with control, walking five batters over just 3.2 innings, leaving the game early due to an injury.

- Gavin Lux hit two home runs tonight, making it four straight games with a home run for the second time this season. The first was May 4-7 in Double-A Tulsa, he had all five RBI for the Dodgers.

- Iowa rallied for six runs in the eighth inning to mark their 23rd comeback win and sixth win when trailing after seven innings.

- The I-Cubs bullpen spun 5.1 scoreless innings allowing no runs on just three hits with no walks and struck out nine batters.
