McCaughan, Rainiers Fall to Las Vegas in Rain-Shortened Game

Tacoma, WA - After a 40-minute rain delay in the top of the sixth inning, the umpires cancelled the remaining four innings as the Tacoma Rainiers fell to the Las Vegas Aviators in a five-inning, official game at Cheney Stadium on Wednesday, 3-0.

Right-hander Darren McCaughan (0-1), who was promoted from Double-A Arkansas Tuesday, allowed three runs and collected five strikeouts across five innings.

Darin Gillies got through his warm-up pitches in the top of the sixth inning before the field was cleared and the game went into a delay. The grounds crew put the tarp on the field as the delay lasted 40 minutes before the contest was cancelled due to field conditions.

Ian Miller, Jake Fraley, Tim Lopes, Chris Mariscal and Jose Lobaton all collected a hit in the effort. Lopes has collected hits in 13 of his last 15 games, hitting at a .350 clip over that span (21-for-60).

The Rainiers will look to split the series against Las Vegas on Thursday at Cheney Stadium in the series finale. Tacoma will roll out southpaw Anthony Misiewicz (4-5, 6.92) for a 7:05 p.m. PDT start.
