Grrrowl release revised schedule
October 7, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Grrrowl News Release
GREENVILLE, S. Carolina - The Greenville Grrrowl, proud affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers, announced today the official schedule for the 2005-06 season.
The league was forced to revise the schedule in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita which forced the Mississippi Sea Wolves and Texas Wildcatters to suspend operations for 2005-06. The Sea Wolves have already reopened their office and have begun preparations for 2006-07 while the Wildcatters have announced that they will reopen their offices as soon as possible looking towards next season.
Greenville's schedule is noticeably different than the one released on June 20th. The earliest notable change occurs on opening night, when the Grrrowl will play in Pensacola, FL on October 21st against an Ice Pilot team which was upset by the Grrrowl in the playoffs last season. Greenville's originally scheduled home opener - October 22nd, 7:05 p.m. against the Charlotte Checkers - has not changed.
Another change is the addition of a home game at the BI-LO Center on New Years Day. The game will be against the South Carolina Stingrays, with the puck dropping at 6:05 p.m.
Home games originally scheduled on November 1st, December 6th, and January 21st have been cancelled. Those dates are being made up with newly scheduled home games on November 5th, January 1st, and March 31st.
The Grrrowl will play 13 homes games on Saturdays, 11 on Fridays, eight on Tuesdays, three on Sundays, and will host one game on a Monday.
Greenville will play Charlotte, Columbia and South Carolina 10 times each, and will play Augusta, Pensacola and Gwinnett nine times each. Other Grrrowl opponents include Florida (6 games), Reading (3), Wheeling (2), Toledo (2), Johnstown (1) and Trenton (1).
Greenville begins its eighth season in the ECHL on October 21st, and will celebrate its Home Opener on October 22nd with a 7:05 p.m. start against the Charlotte Checkers. Individual game tickets went on sale at all Ticketmaster outlets at 10 a.m. today. Call (864) 467-GRRR for more information, or visit www.grrrowl.com
