Royals make slight changes in schedule
October 7, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The ECHL today announced a league-wide schedule revision necessitated by recent hurricane damage in two ECHL markets, Biloxi, Mississippi, and Beaumont, Texas. In spite of the required changes, the Reading Royals' 72 game regular season schedule originally released in June remains essentially in tact. However, six changes were made to the Royals' schedule to accommodate the fact that the Mississippi Sea Wolves and the Texas Wildcatters have been required to suspend operations for the 2005-06 season due to damage caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
With respect to the Royals, four of the changes merely substitute the Royals' opponent on a particular previously-scheduled game night. Also, the Royals' game scheduled in Wheeling, West Virginia, (against the Wheeling Nailers) on Tuesday, December 1, was removed from the schedule, and a game was added in Greenville, South Carolina, (against the Greenville Grrrowl) on Friday, February 10.
Gordon Kaye, the Royals' general manager, stated, "[a]fter you've released a schedule, you're reluctant to make changes. However, the league-wide schedule revision was necessitated by the tragic natural disasters that recently struck the Gulf Coast. This schedule revision is an unfortunate but minor inconvenience, particularly when compared with the impact that the recent hurricanes had upon so many people."
