RoadRunners, ECHL Release Revised 2005-06 Schedule

October 7, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Phoenix RoadRunners News Release

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners, in conjunction with the ECHL, have released their revised 72-game schedule for the 2005-06 season. The revision was necessitated following the voluntary suspension of operations by the Mississippi Sea Wolves and the Texas Wildcatters under the league's hardship provisions as a result of the devastation from Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita respectively.

The RoadRunners will now open their inaugural ECHL campaign away from America West Arena against the Utah Grizzlies at 8PM on October 21 from the E-Center in West Valley City, Utah. This will be the first of nine meetings this season between the league's two expansion teams, including three games during the opening weekend.

Opening Night 2005 at America West Arena will take place the following night, Saturday, October 22, as the RoadRunners host the Grizzlies in the opening game of a two-game series.

There are five home date changes in the revised schedule. The December 26 game vs. Long Beach has been moved to Wednesday, November 9, while the February 19 game vs. Utah has been moved to Sunday, February 26. In addition, the January 3 game vs. Long Beach has been canceled, and a new home game has been added on Tuesday, January 10 vs. Alaska. Finally, the Tuesday, March 14 home game will now be against Las Vegas.

All home games will begin at a new time of 7:11PM, with the exception of Sunday home games which will begin at 5PM. That also includes the Monday, November 21 game vs. Victoria, which was recently changed to a 12PM face-off but now has been rescheduled for a 7:11PM start time.

The RoadRunners will play 16 of their 36 home games on either a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Phoenix will also host two Monday games, seven Tuesday games, five Wednesday games, and six Thursday games.

The RoadRunners were scheduled to play a total of three games at both Mississippi and Texas as part of a season-long 11-game stretch away from America West Arena from January 20 through February 12. That road stretch has now been shortened to nine games, and includes a two-game series with the defending Brabham Cup Champion Pensacola Ice Pilots on February 2 and February 3, the only time this season that Phoenix will play a team that resides in the American Conference. Pensacola was awarded the Brabham Cup following the 2004-05 season by virtue of finishing with the ECHL's best regular season record.

The RoadRunners 2005-06 schedule is fairly balanced among National Conference opponents featuring 38 games against the West Division and 32 games against the Pacific Division. Phoenix will see plenty of former International Hockey League rivals Utah (nine games), Las Vegas (nine games), Long Beach (eight games), and San Diego (seven games). The entire 2005-06 schedule is listed below.

Phoenix will host their first training camp as a member of the ECHL beginning Monday with physicals and team pictures at America West Arena before hitting the ice for the first time at 10AM on Tuesday at Arcadia Ice Arena.

Come break the ice! The Phoenix RoadRunners will host their first annual Ice Breaker Party presented by Texas Roadhouse from 12PM-4PM this Saturday inside the Casino Arizona Pavilion at America West Arena. Select your seats for the 2005-06 regular season right on the spot and meet RoadRunners players, coaches, and staff. Door prizes and free t-shirts will be given away throughout the afternoon. RoadRunners professional hockey returns to downtown Phoenix at 7PM on Saturday, October 22 when the Utah Grizzlies visit America West Arena in the ECHL season opener for both teams.
