Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, announced today that they have informed the ECHL Board of Governors that they will cease operations at the conclusion of the 2008-09 playing season.
"On behalf of the RoadRunners, I would like to thank all of the loyal season ticket holders, marketing partners, and fans that have supported our team over the past four seasons," said Ben Weber, Vice President of Business Operations.
Owned and operated by the Phoenix Suns of the National Basketball Association, the RoadRunners returned to the ice as a member of the ECHL in 2005-06 and advanced to the Kelly Cup Playoffs in 2007.
The RoadRunners were eliminated from playoff contention Tuesday following a 3-2 loss at Idaho.
The RoadRunners continue a season-ending four-game series against the Idaho Steelheads at 6:10 p.m. Friday at Qwest Arena in Boise. Catch all the action on Independent 1310 KXAM beginning with "RoadRunners Countdown" at 6:00 p.m.
