Dayton Bombers News Release

Elmira, NY - Rookie Andrew Fournier led the Dayton Bombers with two goals against the Elmira Jackals, but the Bombers came up short on Thursday night, falling 6-5 on the road.

Playing almost 18 scoreless minutes in the first period, the Bombers were being outshot nearly 2-1 in the frame. Then action heated up as the Jackals netted their first goal of the game at 17:26. Justin Chwedoruk answered back with a feed from Britt Dougherty just 13 seconds later to tie the game at one. Dayton goaltender Paul Drew was caught off guard moments later as Elmira's Mike Sgroi scored his 12th of the year to regain the lead for the Jackals.

The Jackals extended their lead in the second when Paul McIlveen put the puck in the net in the early minutes of the period. The Bombers gained confidence as the game progressed, showering Elmira netminder Michael Teslak with shots in the frame. First Andrew Fournier cut the lead in half with his 6th of the year from Nino Musitelli and Jarret Lukin. Fournier then tied the game at three at the 13 minute mark with assists from Les Reaney and Matt Auffrey. The Bombers took a 4-3 lead as Lukin netted his team-leading 22nd goal of the year from Greg Labenski with under two minutes remaining in the period. Poised to take the lead into the locker room, the Bombers allowed a last minute goal from the Jackals to knot the game at four as Nathan Lutz scored with a mere eight seconds remaining.

Elmira picked up where they left off in the second, tallying the go-ahead goal 19 seconds into the third period. They grew the lead to 6-4 at the two minute mark. The Bombers would battle back, however, when Matt Auffrey put in his 13th of the year at 6:14 in the frame. Reaney and Fournier earned assists on the play. Despite numerous shots late in the frame, the Bombers were unable to come up with the equalizer.

Drew finished the night 24 of 30 in net for the Bombers, while Teslak was 20 of 25 for Elmira. Each team was 2 of 7 with the man advantage.

The Bombers now travel to Wheeling, West Virginia to take on the Nailers tomorrow night at 7:35 p.m. Tune in locally to WONE 980AM to catch all of the action.
