Lamoureux Lands on First Team, Shasby Second

April 2, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

PHOENIX - In a vote of ECHL coaches, Alaska rookie goaltender Jean-Philippe Lamoureux earned first team all-ECHL recognition while defenseman Matt Shasby landed second team all-ECHL accolades for the second time in three years.

The 24-year-old Lamoureux leads the ECHL with 32 wins and a .922 save percentage and ranks second in goals against average (2.33) and minutes (3,011). His league-leading seven shutouts also tie an ECHL single-season record, which he can break by blanking Utah either tomorrow or Saturday at 5:05 p.m. AT. Lamoureux was named the National Conference starting goalie at the 2009 ECHL All-Star Game and stopped nine of 10 shots in the first period, leaving with a 3-1 lead.

Now in his fourth year with the Aces, Shasby currently ranks third among ECHL defensemen in assists (38) and points (45). He also was named captain and a starter (alongside Lamoureux) for the 2008 National Conference All-Star team. The 28-year-old Shasby also was a second-team all ECHL performer in 2007, when he won the league's plus/minus championship at +43 and finished second among league defensemen with 45 assists and third with 55 points, both career-highs.

The Aces (44-23-3) have won six of their last eight road games and 10 of their last 12 overall heading into this weekend's series against the Grizzlies. Their lead in the West Division, however, has been sliced to a single point, meaning that unless Phoenix can upset Idaho in Boise this weekend, Alaska will need to take three of four points at the 'E' Center this weekend. Both games will be broadcast live on KFQD AM 750, with Peanut Farm Pre-Game Show coverage beginning at 4:45 p.m.

The Aces have beaten Utah, who backed into the last playoff spot when the Steelheads beat the Roadrunners on Tuesday, six straight times and regardless of whether the club finishes first or second, its best-of-seven, first round playoff schedule will be as follows (all times AT):

April 10 Utah/Victoria @ Alaska 7:15

April 11 Utah/Victoria @ Alaska 7:15

April 15 Alaska @ Utah/Victoria 5:05/6:05

April 17 Alaska @ Utah/Victoria 5:05/6:05
