Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones extended their winning streak to three games with a 5-2 victory over the Wheeling Nailers on Friday at U.S. Bank Arena. Defenseman Rory Rawlyk scored a pair of goals and added an assist for three points in the contest.
The Cyclones opened the scoring when defenseman Rory Rawlyk, who signed with the team hours before the game, netted a backhanded goal between the legs of Wheeling netminder Andy Franck to give Cincinnati a 1-0 edge. Forward Sam Ftorek assisted on the goal, which was a power play effort at 8:21.
Later in the period, center Cory Urquhart scored his team-leading eleventh goal of the season on a shorthanded effort at 15:38. Torry Gajda picked up the assist on the goal.
Before the period ended, Wheeling's Joe Guenther netted his sixth goal of the season and his third against Cincinnati. His goal came at 19:43 of the frame.
The Nailers would deadlock the game at 2-2, when rookie Chris Brooks scored his first professional goal at 2;09 of the frame.
Before the middle period could end, Jean-Michel Daoust collected his fourth goal of the season on the power play. Daoust played a rebound out of the air into the top corner of the net, past an outstretched Andy Franck to regain the lead for Cincinnati, 3-2.
Daoust scored late in the third period to push the lead out to 4-2 and before the contest ended Gajda added another marker to make the final score 5-2.
The Cyclones improve to 8-8-0 on the season. Cincinnati hosts Dayton Saturday night (Dec. 2) in a 7:30pm contest. Former Cyclones great Gilbert Dionne will have his jersey retired during the game and the first 2000 fans will receive Dionne bobbleheads.
