Alaska Aces News Release

Victoria, BC - Chris Beckford-Tseu out-dueled Victoria's Julien Ellis, finishing with 24 saves as Alaska blanked the Salmon Kings 3-0 Friday night at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.

Despite five power play opportunities, including more than two minutes of a five-on-three situation, Alaska came away with nothing in a scoreless first period against Ellis, who stopped all 17 shots he faced in the frame and 51 by night's end. Ellis had given up six goals before being pulled after two periods Wednesday as the Aces hammered the Salmon Kings 6-1.

The second period offered more of the same, with Alaska owning a 20-7 shots advantage but being repeatedly foiled by Ellis and Victoria's penalty killers, which snuffed out another two-man advantage. Finally, defenseman Corbin Schmidt ripped a loose puck in the right circle past Ellis with 1:11 left in the frame, and the Aces took a 1-0 lead into the final period.

Kevin Croxton provided Alaska with an insurance goal, his eighth of the year, just 48 seconds into the third period, and with Beckford-Tseu turning in yet another sterling outing, the game essentially was over. Vladimir Novak capped the scoring with 3:48 left in regulation. The Aces (10-7) fired a season-high 54 shots on goal, while Beckford-Tseu collected his eighth pro shutout with 24 saves. He has given up one goal in his last 215 minutes of work in an Alaska sweater, but will return to the Aces AHL affiliate in Peoria tomorrow after St. Louis goalie Curtis Sanford suffered a leg injury Friday.

Alaska and Victoria (7-9-1) put a wrap on this three-game series tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. AST, with live coverage on KFQD 750 AM beginning at 5:45 p.m. The Aces return to Anchorage Wednesday, December 6, for a rematch of last year's conference Finals against Fresno. The final two games of the series will be held on Military Weekend, December 8-9. All three contests will begin at 7:15 p.m. Tickets for next week's games at Sullivan Arena are now available at www.alaskaaces.com or by calling 258-ACES.
