Ellis makes 51 saves in Salmon Kings loss

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Manitoba Moose and the Vancouver Canucks, faced the fiery Alaska Aces in a thawed out game two at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Victoria Netminder Julien Ellis shovelled in 51 saves and earned first star of the game despite the Alaska 3-0 win.

In the scoreless first period, Ellis made 17 saves in battling five Alaska powerplays.

It took 18:49 into the second period before an Alaska 1-0 lead. On the Aces thirty-seventh shot of the game, Corbin Schmidt capitalized on a rebound to the right circle for his second goal of the season. Ellis made 19 more saves in the second stanza.

Alaska posted two goals in the third period to snare the win. At 00:48 into the third, Kevin Croxton beat Ellis for his eighth goal of the season, and Vladimir Novak earned his sixth goal of the season with a quick wrist shot with 3:48 remaining.

Final score: 3-0 Aces

Beckford-Tseu tallied his fifth win of the season and second shutout, and Ellis earned the first star of the game despite being handed his fourth loss. Victoria was 0 for 4 on the powerplay and Alaska went 1 for 10 with the man advantage. The Aces outshot the Salmon Kings 54-24. Victoria (7-9-1) will host Alaska (10-7-0) for the third and final game of the series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

NOTES:

-Julien Ellis made 51 saves and earned a 0.944 save percentage.

-Victoria's penalty killing squad was 9 for 10, with two of those series fighting a 5-on-3 disadvantage.
