Checkers fall 4-2 to Ice Pilots

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers fell 4-2 in a loss Friday night at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena in front of 4,888 fans. In his return from Hartford, Lee Falardeau scored his first goal of the season for the Checkers.

Scoring started half way through the first period with an unassisted even-strength goal from Mike Wiril at 7:14 in the period. The rest of the first period was scoreless, and going into the first intermission the Ice Pilots led 1-0.

The Checkers evened the score at 15:39 on a power play goal from Corey Potter who was assisted by Mark Lee giving Potter his fourth goal of the season. Pensacola returned score at 16:51 in the period on the power play from Rob Rankin and the assists were given to Dallas Steward and Mario Joly. With Rankin's goal Pensacola had the lead at 2-1 going into the second intermission.

Lee Falardeau evened the game late in the third period with an even-strength goal giving him his first goal of the season. Mike Ouellette and Adam Nightingale were credited with the assists on the Falardeau goal. Little over a minute later, Pensacola's Wiril scored his second goal of the evening which was an even-strength goal and the assist was given to Joly giving him his second assist of the evening. Pensacola took the game away less than a minute later on an empty net goal from Rankin, his second of the game, giving Pensacola the win with a final score of 4-2.
