1. JONES AND CLANCY NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Gary Steelheads center Lonnie Jones was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week, while Idaho Stampede forward Sam Clancy was named the Western Conference Player of the Week for the week of December 19 – 25.

Jones averaged 15.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 5.0 blocked shots and one assist per game during the week, while shooting 65.0 percent (13 of 20) from the floor. In a 94-93 (5-2) victory over the Michigan Mayhem on December 22, Jones posted 14 points, eight rebounds, four blocks and two assists to lead the Steelheads to the win. The following night he added 17 points, 14 rebounds and six blocked shots in a 104-100 (5.5-1.5) loss to the Rockford Lightning.

On the season, the 6-foot-11, 240-pound center is leading the league in blocked shots with 4.4 per game, and ranks seventh in rebounding at 9.5 per contest.

Idaho forward Sam Clancy posted 21.0 points and 16.5 rebounds per game last week as he led the Stampede to a 1-1 split with the Sioux Falls Skyforce in two games played. He also added 3.0 blocks, 2.0 steals, and one assist per contest, while shooting 55.0 percent (12 of 22) from the floor, and 95.0 percent (18 of 19) from the free-throw line.

In a 110-103 (6-1) loss to Sioux Falls on December 23, the 6-foot-7, 245-pound forward scored 24 points and added 19 rebounds, three blocked shots, two steals and one assist. Two nights later, he posted 18 points, 14 rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals as the Stampede defeated the Skyforce 123-93 (7-0) on Christmas night.

On the season, Clancy ranks 4th in the League in rebounding with 9.9 per game, and ranks 2nd in blocked shots with 2.0 per contest.

Other players receiving consideration were Great Lakes' Mark Jones (25.0 ppg, 6.3 rpg), Rockford's Marshall Phillips (23.3 ppg, 6.3 rpg), Dakota's Billy Keys (26.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg), and Sioux Falls' DeSean Hadley (20.7 ppg, 7.2 rpg).

3. CBA HEAD COACHES AND BEAT WRITERS CHOOSE ALL-STARS

The Continental Basketball Association will announce the 2005 CBA All-Star Teams on Monday, January 10, and Tuesday, January 11, 2005. The CBA beat reporter in each market and every CBA Head Coach will be asked to vote for the elite 20 players in the CBA who will showcase their skills at the 21st CBA All-Star Classic in Gary, Indiana, on Wednesday, January 19, 2005.

The CBA All-Star coaching staffs will be awarded to the teams with the two highest quarter-point averages at the conclusion of games completed on Saturday, January 8.

The All-Star Classic will feature the CBA Long Distance Shootout and the Slam Dunk Competition, beginning at 6 pm. Following the skills competitions, the 21st CBA All-Star Game will tip-off at 7:30 pm (local time). During the contest, reporters and NBA scouts will make their selection for All-Star Most Valuable Player honors, to be announced after the game.

4. OFFICIAL CBA SCOREPHONE PROVIDES SCORES ON GAME NIGHTS

The Official CBA Scorephone provides final scores, quarter point totals and leading scorers from each team upon the completion of each day's final game.

"Since 1983 the Scorephone has allowed anyone with access to a telephone the ability to find out the outcome and leading scorers for CBA games on the night they were played," stated CBA Deputy Commissioner, Wade Morehead. "Coupled with the official CBA website, our goal is to provide the public with up-to-date information from around the league as soon as it becomes available."

DAKOTA WIZARDS: Picking up the 12th win in a row this past week, the Wizards now possess the second-longest streak in franchise history and the longest as a member of the Continental Basketball Association...The Wizards have not lost since dropping the first two games of the season to Sioux Falls...This Friday marks the annual New Year's Eve extravaganza, as the Wizards will host the Sioux Falls Skyforce...Activities for the night include giveaways for two second-row seats to a Minnesota Timberwolves game and two round-trip airline tickets to Las Vegas, Nevada...The Wizards are also happy to welcome the Alexandria Aces back for their 5th year as half-time entertainment.

GARY STEELHEADS: The Gary Steelheads started the week off in Michigan as they took on the Mayhem....The Steelheads came out on top 94-93....David Graves had 21 points in the victory...The Steelheads then returned to the Genesis Convention Center to take on their divisional rival Rockford...The Steelheads came up short losing 104-100...Paul McPherson had 26 points in only 15 minutes of play...Jimmie "Snap" Hunter made his return to the Steelheads, scoring 15 points in his first game since November 21st...The Steelheads had a brief respite for the holiday and then traveled to Rockford looking for revenge against the Lightning...Paul McPherson again led the way with 27 points and Shelly Clark pulled down a Steelheads high of 19 rebounds, but the Steelheads lost to the Lightning for the second time in three days, 122-113....The Steelheads are making preparations for the CBA All-Star Classic sponsored by Infinity Pro Sports on January 19th.



GREAT LAKES STORM: The Great Lakes Storm remains in second place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 9-9 (64.5 pts). They finished the week with a record of 3-0 as they stretched their road winning streak to a season-high three games. They beat the Rockford Lightning 93-89 (5-2) to give them their first loss at the MetroCentre. The Storm then beat the Mayhem on Christmas Day 102-97 (5-2), and the following day 112-111 OT (5-2) to complete a successful holiday weekend...Mark Jones had a great week as he averaged 25.0 points 6.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. He currently leads the CBA in scoring with 21.6 points per contest...Storm players Kasib Powell and Mark Jones have been the most consistent players for Coach Bergman this season. Powell (44.5) and Jones (41.7) are currently second and fourth respectively in minutes played average...The Storm will play on the road at Gary on Tuesday before returning home for six straight contests. The home games on the 29th and 31st against the Rockford Lightning will be pivotal if the Storm wishes to take over first place in the Eastern Conference. They are also important if Coach Bergman wishes to coach in the 2005 CBA All-Star Game, as the coach of the team with the best quarter-point average upon completion of the games on January 8th will have the honor of coaching their respective conference in the All-Star Game in Gary on January 19th.


IDAHO STAMPEDE: Sam Clancy was named Player of the Week in the Western Conference...The Tickets for Toys program concluded at the home game on Dec. 23rd...Clancy and Donald Williams visited the local Journal Broadcast Group radio stations
during morning drive to promote games last week...Stampede Radio Show is on two week hiatus...Spirit Dance team appeared at the MPC Computers Bowl tent village during the pre-game festivities.


MICHIGAN MAYHEM: The Michigan Mayhem lost all three games at home this past week, by a total of 7 points...The Mayhem lost to Gary 94-93 on Wednesday December 22nd, and to Great Lakes twice, 102-97 on Saturday December 25th, and 112-111 in an Overtime Game on Sunday, December 26th...The Mayhem will take to the road this week as they travel to Rockford for a game on Tuesday December 28th and then spend New Year's Eve in Gary for a game against the Steelheads on December 31st...The Mayhem will return home to open the year with a home game against the Yakima Sun Kings on Saturday January 1st...Leading Scorers during the past week were Sam Mack (29.0 ppg for 2 games only), Brad Buddenborg (13.6 ppg) and Charles Gaines (13.3 ppg)...The leading rebounder for the week was Charles Gaines (12.6 rpg)...The Christmas Halftime Show this week featured two X-Boxes given away to two lucky fans sponsored by "Men and Women of Character".

ROCKFORD LIGHTNING: The Rockford Lightning ended the holiday week in first place in the CBA's Eastern Conference...The week of games did not start off on a good note, as Rockford lost to the Great Lakes Storm on December 22nd by a score of 93-89...Last week's Eastern Conference Player of the Week Stais Boseman received two technicals and was ejected with 7:22 remaining in the third quarter of the ballgame...that was the Lightning's first loss at home this season...Rockford got their first road win at the Genesis Center the next night as they defeated the Gary Steelheads 104-100...On the day after Christmas, the Bolts defeated the Gary Steelheads at home 122-113...Rookie Sidney Holmes earned his first career double double with ten points and 12 rebounds in only his third career start...Keith Closs has had 31 blocked shots since joining the Lightning on December 11th...Marshall Phillips has moved up to third in the league in scoring, averaging 20.6 points per game...Ronnie Fields suffered a broken thumb in his non-shooting (left) hand in the December 9th game against Sioux Falls...he is expected to return to the lineup on the first of the year.


SIOUX FALLS SKYFORCE: The Skyforce ended their week with a 3-1 record.... Sioux Falls recorded three road wins over divisional opponents.... Guard DeSean Hadley led the way with 20.8 points per game, 7.25 rebounds, and 4.25 assists.... Alpha Bangura also averaged 20.5 points per game.... 4,544 fans attended the annual Christmas Night game at the Sioux Falls Arena.... After hosting Dakota on Wednesday night, the Force hit the road for four straight games.... The Skyforce Reading Program kicks off on January 3rd and 4th.... Coaches and players will speak to over 4,000 students regarding the importance of education during the two-day event.


YAKIMA SUN KINGS: The Yakima Sun Kings concluded their home stand with a 96-91 loss to the Sioux Falls Skyforce on December 22... Andre McCollum led the Sun Kings with 18 points and seven assists in the 5-2 quarter-point loss...The Sun Kings also completed their first YMCA clinic on December 20, with over 35 youths in attendance...The second of the three clinics is scheduled for January 24... These clinics are made possible through a partnership between the Sun Kings and the local YMCA. Each participant is given two tickets to 5 games during the regular season, and a t-shirt; provided by co-sponsor, COKE...The Sun Kings travel to Idaho on Thursday December 30 and continue their road trip until January 7, when they face the Dakota Wizards in the SunDome at 7:05pm.



7. PRIMETIME PERFORMANCES
Great Lakes Storm center Doug Smith posted 23 points, 11 rebounds and three steals in a 93-89 (5-2) victory over the Rockford Lightning on December 22.
Gary Steelheads center Lonnie Jones posted 17 points, 14 rebounds and six blocked shots in a 104-100 (5.5-15) loss to the Lightning on December 23.
Sioux Falls Skyforce guard Randy Livingston posted 22 points and 11 rebounds in a 110-103 (6-1) victory over the Idaho Stampede on December 23. In the same game, Idaho forward Sam Clancy posted 24 points and 19 rebounds.
Michigan Mayhem forward Sam Mack scored 37 points in a 102-97 (5-2) loss to Great Lakes on December 25.

10. THIS WEEK IN CBA HISTORY
On December 30, 1999, the Yakima Sun Kings pulled down 80 rebounds in a 103-90 victory over the La Crosse Bobcats, tying the mark set by the Detroit Spirits on January 4, 1983 in a 101-107 loss to the Ohio Mixers. The Bobcats would again fall to the Sun Kings on April 2, 2000, in the first-ever single elimination CBA Finals game.
