Brahmas stun Blazers with come from behind shootout win
December 29, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
The Fort Worth Brahmas rallied from a two goal third period deficit en route to a come from behind 4-3 shootout win over the Oklahoma City Blazers Tuesday night at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
When Oklahoma City forward Cody Loughlean snapped a shot past Brahmas goaltender Dan Murphy 4:43 into the third period to give the Blazers a 3-1 lead, things looked bleak for the Brahmas.
Fort Worth, however, refused to rollover and give the Blazers the win. Brahmas forward Nick Udovicic redirected a Brandon Carper shot past Oklahoma City goaltender Sean Connors at the 9:24 mark of the third for a powerplay goal that made the score 3-2.
With the momentum on their side and 3,692 fans cheering them on, Fort Worth pushed for the tying goal. Center Aaron Davis then delivered in dramatic fashion for Fort Worth. Davis cut to the front of the Blazers net and batted a Jorin Welsh centering pass out of midair to tie the score at 3 at the 15:06 mark of the third period.
After a scoreless overtime, the game was decided in a shootout. Fort Worth forward Derek Seal netted the decisive game winning goal for the Brahmas when he slipped the puck between the legs of Connors on the Brahmas fourth shootout attempt. Fort Worth goaltender Dan Murphy stopped four of the five Blazers shots he faced in the shootout to preserve the win and the extra point for the Brahmas.
Murphy turned in an impressive performance in net to get the win for the Brahmas. He stopped 34 of the 37 Blazers sent his way through overtime before his shootout heroics. Connors was saddled with the shootout loss for the Blazers, allowing the three Fort Worth regulation goals on 33 shots.
The Brahmas (15-8-3) win, coupled with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 4-3 regulation loss in Austin, pulls Fort Worth back into a tie with the Mudbugs atop the CHL's Northeast Division standings. The Brahmas will try to stay in the divisional lead this Thursday, Dec. 30, when they host the Northwest Division leading Wichita Thunder at the Convention Center. Game time will be 7:30 p.m. For additional information, please contact the Brahmas team office at (817) 336-4423.
