Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
WICHITA, Kansas (April 11) - The Fort Worth Brahmas' comeback fell short Thursday night at INTRUST Bank Arena, as the team was defeated by the Wichita Thunder 4-3 in game two. The Brahmas now trail the Thunder in the best-of-seven, Central Hockey League, semi-final series two games to none.
Wichita scored three times in the opening period. RG Flath found the back of the net twice - on a rebound at 5:49 and on a wrist shot from just inside the right-wing faceoff circle at 13:04. Ian Lowe added a power-play goal at 8:54 as he deflected the puck off of a Brahmas defenseman's skate past Fort Worth netminder Kristofer Westblom.
Ross Rouleau notched two power-play goals in the second period to cut the Brahmas' deficit to one. After a Travis Wight tripping minor, Rouleau ripped a slap shot from the high slot past Wichita goaltender Torrie Jung at the 2:57 mark. The Fort Worth captain added his second goal at 7:51 as he fired a slap shot from the left-wing circle into the back of the net. For Rouleau, his first two scores of the postseason regained sole possession of the team lead in points with six.
After Greger Hanson extended the Thunder lead to 4-2 with a breakaway goal at 11:35 of the third period, Fort Worth answered with a score of its own. Colin Mulvey put home a rebound off of Ricky Helmbrecht's wrist shot from the point at 14:58 to bring the Brahmas to within a single goal once again.
Westblom made 3 saves on 6 shots in 13:04 before being replaced in net by Brad Fogal in the first period. Fogal stopped 15 of 16 shots faced in relief.
Jung improved to 6-0 in the postseason, stopping 22 of 25 shots for the Thunder.
The Brahmas outplayed the Thunder on special teams in game two, going 2-for-3 on the power play. Wichita was 1-for-5 on the man advantage.
With the loss, Fort Worth falls behind 2-0 in the best-of-seven series. The series now shifts to the NYTEX Sports Centre in North Richland Hills for games three and four Thursday, April 18 and Saturday, April 20, respectively. Both games are set for 7:30pm.
