Wichita Thunder News Release

Wichita, KS ( April 11th ) - Wichita jumped out to a three-goal lead and hung on late for a 4-3 victory on Thursday night over the Fort Worth Brahmas at INTRUST Bank Arena. RG Flath added a pair of goals for the second-straight night while Greger Hanson tallied his fourth of the playoffs to preserve the win. The Thunder take a 2-0 series lead with the CHL Semifinals shifting down to Texas a week from tonight.

Wichita got off to a great start, blitzing Kristofer Westblom for three goals in an eight-minute span. Flath scored his first at 5:49 when he found a rebound off a point shot from Travis Wight and banged it home for the 1-0 lead. Just over three minutes later, Ian Lowe scored his second power play goal of the post-season from behind the goal line that banked off Westblom and in for a 2-0 Thunder lead. Flath book-ended the first period scoring for Wichita with a beautiful wrister under the arm of Westblom at 13:04 and that was the last the Thunder would see of him as Brad Fogal came on in relief.

In the second period, Ross Rouleau added two power play goals to get the Brahmas back in the game. His first came at 2:57 when he caught the post with a slap shot from the deep slot and in the net to make it 3-1. His second was again from the outside and a heavy slap shot that found its way past Torrie Jung to cut the lead to 3-2 Thunder.

Greger Hanson gave the Thunder a bit of breathing room midway through the third period when he stole a pass at the Thunder blue line, came down on a breakaway with a defender bearing down on him and found the back of the net with a backhand. The Brahmas would not go away, however, as Colin Mulvey scored at 14:58 to make a one-goal contest late in the third. Wichita was able to keep the Brahmas to the outside and held on for a 4-3 win.

Flath has recorded back-to-back two-goal outings while Matt Summers added a pair of assists. Hanson extends his point-streak to six games with his game-winner in the third. Young records an assist and remains tied for the scoring lead in the playoffs with 10 points (3g, 7a). Jung earned his sixth win of the post-season, stopping 22 of 25 shots. Despite coming on in relief, Fogal took the loss stopping 15 of 16 shots he faced. Westblom gave up three goals on just six shots in 13 minutes.

Wichita went 1-for-5 on the power play while Fort Worth was 2-for-3.
