Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA -- The Central Hockey League today announced the Northern Conference reserves for the 2005 Dodge CHL All-Star Game on January 12, 2005 and the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs will be well-represented by two of their most talented defensive players. Goaltender Ken Carroll and defenseman Jason Basile (BAY-zul) will head to Laredo, Texas and play for the Northern Conference All-Star team in the CHL's mid-season showcase.
Carroll, Basile and the rest of the Northern Conference reserves were selected by All-Star Head Coach Chris Stewart of the Colorado Eagles in conjunction with the CHL's hockey operations department. Carroll, who started in goal in last season's All-Star game, will make his fourth career all-star appearance and third with the Mudbugs. This is the first such honor for Basile who is in his third season with Bossier-Shreveport.
A native of Oil City, Ontario, Ken Carroll is currently fourth among goaltenders in the CHL with a 2.26 goals against average and third in save percentage at .923. In 15 games this season, he has posted a 10-4-1 record including his 100th career victory on November 26th. In his rookie season with the Mudbugs, he was named starting goaltender in the 2001 WPHL All-Star Game in Odessa, TX and also played in the 2002 ECHL All-Star Game while representing the Jackson Bandits. Last year, he was voted the starting goaltender for the Northern Conference All-Star team in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
"Obviously, Ken Carroll has proven that he is an all-star goaltender year after year since his arrival here in Bossier-Shreveport," said Mudbugs Head Coach Scott Muscutt. "His play this season is no exception when you look at the big game performances that he's put together. I'm excited for him and I know he'll represent the Mudbugs very well in the All-Star Game this season just as he has in years past."
Basile, 26, makes his first career all-star appearance and has developed into one of the most solid and consistent defensemen in the CHL during his three-year professional career. A native of West Bloomfield, Michigan, Basile has appeared in every Mudbugs game over the last three seasons and currently leads the team in points by a defenseman with four goals and eight assists. He came to the Mudbugs in 2002 from Ferris State University and will now join the 2005 Northern Conference All-Star squad.
"This is an honor that is long overdue for one of our best defensemen," said Muscutt. "Jason has been such a huge part of our success over the last two and a half seasons with his great work ethic and incredible consistency. His all-around defensive game is certainly worthy of all-star honors and I'm thrilled that he is being recognized for his efforts."
The 2005 Dodge CHL All-Star Game will take place on January 12, 2005 at the Laredo Entertainment Center in Laredo, Texas. The game will also be televised on Fox Sports Net Southwest and will air on January 14, 2005 at 7:00 p.m..
This week, the Mudbugs will travel to Memphis on Friday before returning home for two big Northeast Division games at the CenturyTel Center. On Saturday, the Mudbugs will then host the Memphis RiverKings at 7:05 p.m. on New Year's Day with special New Year's jerseys sponsored by Kroger. Then the team will take on the Tulsa Oilers on Sunday at 6:05 p.m. in a game that was originally scheduled for March 1st.
