Komets host Mechanics New Years Eve

Fort Wayne, IN — The Komet's long-standing tradition of celebrating New Year's Eve with a home game continues this Friday night when the Mechanics visit from the Motor City. Face off is 8pm.

This Friday night's match will be the 48th Komet home game on New Year's Eve and the 6th straight since joining the UHL in 1999. The Komets have a winning record of 30-13-4 when playing on coliseum ice New Year's Eve and are 4-1-0 since joining the UHL. Last year the K's rang in the New Year with a 7-3 victory over the visiting IceHogs from Rockford.

The Komets will begin the game on top the UHL while the Mechanics try to work their way out of last place. The Komets are 2-0-0 vs. Motor City so far this season with 4 meetings remaining. The Komets shutout the visiting Mechanics 3-0 in their last meeting Dec. 10 on Fort Wayne ice. 5,000 Instant Copy 2005 Calendars featuring Komet players on each month will be handed out to fans entering the game New Year's Eve along with the traditional party horns while supplies last.

Before they celebrate New Year's Eve, the Komets will skate at Rockford tonight at 8:05pm and then travel to Quad City to face the Mallards tomorrow evening at 8:00.

After Friday's home tilt with Motor City, the Komets host the Kalamazoo Wings at 5pm Sunday to complete a 5-game week which started with a 4-0 shutout victory over the visiting Kansas City Outlaws Monday night in Fort Wayne. Sunday, fans are encouraged to bring their skates for a holiday post-game skate with the Komets on coliseum ice.

Plenty of good seats remain available for the Komet's 2 home games this weekend. Tickets are on sale at the Coliseum Ticket Office and online at ticketmaster.com.
