This week with the St. Louis Steamers
December 29, 2004 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
St. Louis Steamers News Release
This week's Game:
The Steamers kick off the new year Sunday night (January 2) when they host the Baltimore Blast at 6:05 p.m. at Savvis Center. St. Louis has an 8-5 record and is only one game behind the Milwaukee Wave in the Central Division. Although the Blast are two-time defending MISL Champions, they have struggled this season and are looking to improve on their 6-8 record. Despite their record, the Blast have been a thorn in the Steamers' side. Baltimore handed St. Louis two of their five losses, both in overtime.
St. Louis is expecting forward Joe Reiniger (left) back in the lineup for Sunday's contest. Reiniger has missed the previous five games due to a hamstring injury. When he went on the Injured Reserve list, Reiniger was among the team's offensive leaders. Despite missing five games, Reiniger still ranks fourth on the club in goals (eight), is tied for third in assists (five) and is fourth in total points (13).
The Steamers have posted a 5-3 record on home turf and have won their last two games at Savvis Center. Scoring early may be key to a Steamers victory Sunday night. They are 6-1 this season when scoring the first goal.
Following Sunday's duel, the Steamers journey to Milwaukee to tangle with the Wave next Friday (January 7). The Wave are dormant until the January 7 game, so a St. Louis victory on Sunday would put the Steamers only one-half game behind the Wave with the potential of gaining sole possession of first place when the two teams clash next Friday.
Upcoming Games:
Sunday, January 9th, the St. Louis Steamers take on the Chicago Storm at the Savvis Center. The Steamers defeated the Storm at their last meeting 8 to 7.
