Groome Signs With Monarchs

AA Kansas City Monarchs March 16, 2026 - Kansas City, KS - Standing in at 6'6" left-handed pitcher Jay Groome has spent seven seasons in the Boston Red Sox and San Diego Padres organizations and is now ready to restart his pitching career with the Kansas City Monarchs. Groome was the 12th overall selection out of Barnegat High School (New Jersey) and labeled a top prospect in the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft by the Red Sox. The 6'3", 23-year-old right-hander from Boynton Beach, FL, is entering his second full season of professional baseball. Spending the last season and a half with the Milwaukee Milkmen of the American Association, Purnell showed versatility in the pitching staff, appearing in 46 games while starting 21 of them.
