June 8, 2026 - BASEBALL Appalachian League: The summer-collegiate Appy League, which operates under the Major League Baseball and USA Baseball Prospect Development Pipeline, started its 2026 season this week with eight teams aligned in four-team East and West divisions with each team playing a 48-game schedule through July 30, 2025. The league had ten teams last season but the Tri State Coal Cats (Huntington, WV) did not return and the Bristol (VA) State Liners are sitting out the 2026 season due to the lack of a suitable home ballpar... ApL June 8, 2026 - CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Appalachian League announced that Greeneville's Owen ten Oever (Indiana) and Danville's Kamden Hawks were named Player and Pitcher of the week, respectively, for the period of June 4-6. ten Oever, 18, slashed .500/.588/1.214 with a 1.803 OPS across three games for the Greeneville Flyboys en route to Player of the Week honors. Sock Puppets Complete Sweep of Axmen in Season-Opening Series

ApL Burlington Sock Puppets June 7, 2026 - KINGSPORT, Tenn. - For the third time in three days, the Burlington Sock Puppets beat the Kingsport Axmen. Saturday's 7-4 win marked a series sweep, giving Burlington its first 3-0 start since 2022. Similar to Games 1 and 2, it was Burlington that scored first, but not without a stout pitcher's duel to get things going. LHP Joshua Evans got the start for the Sock Puppets.
