
Wranglers fall to Idaho, but clinch playoff berth

LAS VEGAS, NV- The Las Vegas Wranglers® (33-10-14, 80 points) were defeated by the Idaho Steelheads (32-19-5, 69 points) 3-2 in a shootout on Tuesday night in front of 3,679 fans at the Orleans Arena. Defenseman Kyle Peto's goal in the ninth round of the shootout was the game-winner for Idaho. Wranglers' defenseman Jason Jozsa and forward Derek Edwardson each scored for Las Vegas in the loss. Wranglers' goalie Mike McKenna stopped 21 of 23 shots in the game and eight of nine shots in the shootout loss. Idaho goalie Steve Silverthorn made 27 saves in the game and stopped all nine Las Vegas shooters in the shootout. Despite the shootout loss, the Wranglers still earned point in the standings, qualfying the team for the 2007 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Las Vegas will host the Texas Wildcatters this Friday and Saturday night at the Orleans Arena, the start time for both games is 7:05 pm (PST).
After a scoreless first period, Lance Galbraith was the first on the board for Idaho as he snuck a shot between the legs of Wranglers' goalie Mike McKenna at 3:11 of the second period to give the Steelheads a 1-0 lead.
In the third period, Idaho added to their lead as Scott Burt tallied for the 11th time this season giving the Steelheads a 2-0 advantage. The Wranglers struck back on the power play when Steve Crampton found Jason Jozsa in the slot and he beat goalie Steve Silverthorn to make it a 2-1 game. The Wranglers tied the game moments later with a power-play goal from Derek Edwardson at 16:47 to send the game to overtime.
After a scoreless overtime period, the teams were held scoreless through the first eight rounds of the shootout. Kyle Peto's goal in the ninth round gave Idaho the win.
The Wranglers continue their seven-game home stand when they host Texas on Friday and Saturday night at 7:05 pm at the Orleans Arena. Friday night, the Wranglers will hand out team player card sets to the first 2,000 fans, compliments of Cox Communications. On Saturday, fans may attend the Port of Subs Pre-Game Party from 4:30 - 6:30 pm in the concourse of the Orleans Arena.
