Idaho Steelheads News Release

Las Vegas, NV - Defenseman Kyle Peto snapped a deadlock in the ninth round of a sudden death shootout, as the Steelheads slipped past the Las Vegas Wranglers, 3-2 in front of 3,679 fans at Orleans Arena on Tuesday night.

Steelheads' goaltender Steve Silverthorn (27 saves) stopped all nine Wranglers' shooters in the shootout to earn his fifth shootout victory and his 28th overall. The win is the Steelheads (32-19-2-3) fifth via a shootout, as they finish their season series with the Wranglers (33-11-6-8) at 4-3-1-2 and their four-game road trip at 2-1-0-1.

After a scoreless, yet physical, first period Lance Galbraith put the Steelheads in front 1-0 at 3:11 of the second period with a power play goal, his 24th of the season. Galbraith took a pass from Derek Nesbitt and skated out from the goal line along the right wing side, before tucking a shot past Wranglers' goaltender Mike McKenna (21 saves). Fellow linemate, Marty Flichel, also drew an assist on the only marker through the first two periods.

With 40 minutes expired, the Wranglers held a 21-13 shot advantage and the Steelheads had a 1-0 lead.

At 6:52 of the third period Scott Burt beat McKenna with a wrist shot from the left wing boards to give the Steelheads some breathing room. Colin Shields grabbed the only helper on Burt's 11th of the campaign and his 10th marker on the road.

However, midway through the third period, the Wranglers power play got on track to help them even the match. With just over seven minutes left in regulation defenseman Jason Jozsa found himself open in the slot and he beat Silverthorn with a shot just under the crossbar for his eighth of the season. Then, on Wranglers' next opportunity, Derek Edwardson batted a bouncing puck over the right pad of Silverthorn for his 20th of the year, which tied the game at two with 3:13 remaining. Steve Crampton and Scott Schoneck got the assists on both power play tallies.

After a scoreless overtime, it was to the third shootout of the season series, where the Wranglers had won the previous two.

The final shots favored the Wranglers 29-24, as the Steelheads were out-shot for the first time in their last six outings. The Steelheads finished one-for-six on the power play, as they've now converted on the man advantage in five straight contests, while the Wranglers ended the night two-for-eight. In all, seven of the 10 regular season meetings between the two clubs were one-goal affairs, and six went past regulation.

The Steelheads return home to host the Fresno Falcons for a three-game series beginning on Thursday, March 8. The puck drops at 7:10 p.m. MST. Don't forget, Steelheads' single-game tickets are still available, and can be purchased by calling 331-TIXS, by visiting www.idahosteelheads.com (using the all-new, print at home feature) or by visiting the Qwest Arena box office.
