Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors were busy at the ECHL trade deadline Wednesday, acquiring defenseman Ryan Van Buskirk from the Florida Everblades and dealing forward Kevin Asselin to the Columbia Inferno.
Van Buskirk, a 6-foot 2-inch, 215-pound defenseman was traded to the Condors for future considerations. Asselin was sent to the Inferno for financial considerations.
Van Buskirk helped the Florida Everblades to the best record in the South Division this season tallying 13 points (1g, 12a) and 74 PIM in 29 games. Van Buskirk has an extensive pro career, spending time in the AHL, ECHL, UHL, and CHL during his eight-year stint. The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native recorded career numbers during the 2003-04 season when he put up 15 points (2g, 13a) and 50 PIM in 27 games.
"We are looking for a tough presence on the blue line," said Condors head coach Marty Raymond. "Van Buskirk will bring good experience to the team for the playoffs."
Van Buskirk was a fourth round selection of the Phoenix Coyotes in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He re- entered the draft in 2000 and was selected by the Washington Capitals, also in the fourth round.
Asselin, in his first pro season, notched 11 points (3g, 8a) and 36 penalty minutes in 41 games with the Condors. Before being traded to the Condors on Nov. 7, Asselin had a short stint with the Texas Wildcatters playing in one game, recording no goals or assists with two penalty minutes.
