Bombers' Denike Named Rbk Hockey Goalie Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Terry Denike of the Dayton Bombers is the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Feb. 26-Mar. 4, 2007.

Starting all five games for the Bombers, the 25-year-old allowed only seven goals and was 5-0-0 with a 1.40 goals-against average and a .952 save percentage. Denike helped Dayton climb into second place in the North Division, two points behind Cincinnati and two points ahead of Reading, when he stopped all 25 shots he faced to record his first shutout of the season in a 6-0 win against Trenton on Mar. 4.

Signed by Dayton on Feb. 8, the 6-foot-1 and 190-pound Denike is 5-1-0 with a goals-against average of 1.83 and a save percentage of .936 in six games with the Bombers. After stopping 29 shots in a 6-2 win against Toledo on Feb. 27, he made 23 saves in a 4-1 win at Johnstown on Feb. 28 and had a season-high 32 saves in a 5-2 win at Wheeling on Mar. 2. The Burlington, Ontario native made 31 saves in a 7-2 win at Reading on Mar. 3 before returning home to shut out Trenton.

Selected in the fifth round (152nd overall) by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft and in his fourth professional season, Denike began the season in the Southern Professional Hockey League where he was 3-6-1 with a goals-against average of 4.98 and a save percentage of .873 for Florida before the team folded in January.

In his first professional season in 2003-04, Denike played in the ECHL with Fresno and Reading and was 3-5-1 with a goals-against average of 3.19 and a save percentage of .904 in 11 games while also playing in the Central Hockey League where he was 1-1-0 with a 2.42 goals-against average and .905 save percentage in two games with Wichita. He played in the SPHL the last two seasons with Jacksonville, Macon and Florida and in 2006 was named the SPHL Goaltender of the Year after going 28-13-6 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.97 and a save percentage of .910 in 48 games for Florida.
