Royals Add Three To Roster

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that team has signed forwards Michael Cohen and Ross McCain, as well as goaltender Curtis Darling. In separate transactions recently completed, the Royals also announced that forward Malcolm MacMillan has been returned from the Albany River Rats of the AHL and that defenseman Rob LaLonde has been returned from the Binghamton Senators of the AHL, after playing in the Senators' 5-2 loss to the Philadelphia Phantoms last night. Also, Manchester has recalled defenseman Bryan Schmidt, who played three games with the Royals last weekend. In another separate transaction, the Royals have released emergency back up goaltender, Chris Cuppett.

Cohen (5'10/189) (21) just completed his senior season with the Canisius College Golden Griffins, where he scored ten goals and assisted on eleven others in thirty five games. Cohen, who hails from Williamsville, New York, led Canisius in scoring during his first three seasons with the Golden Griffins, racking up a total of 100 points (42g - 58a = 100pts) in 134 college games. McCain (5'9"/185) (25), a first year pro from Florenceville, New Brunswick, started this season in the Central Hockey League where he played a combined 48 games with the Lubbock Cotton Kings and Oklahoma City Blazers, scoring a total of six goals and assisting on seventeen others. McCain, who was twice named a Canadian Interuniversity Sport Scholastic All-American during his four year career at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, scored nineteen goals and assisted on eighteen others in 101 Canadian university games.

Darling (6'2"/185) (23) just completed his third season with the University of Waterloo Warriors, where he led the team to the Ontario Athletic Union's playoff semi-finals. Darling, who was recently named a finalist for the Canadian Interuniversity Sport All-Canadian Team, was selected as the OAU West Section's Most Valuable Player last season, as well as his team's MVP for two seasons running. During his three seasons at Waterloo, Darling was twice selected as a First Team West Section OAU All-Star. During his first year in CIS hockey, Darling was named as the West Section's Rookie of the Year, while also earning a selection to the All-Rookie team. Darling, who currently hails from Portland, Oregon, began his junior career in the Western Hockey League with the Portland Winter Hawks and Spokane Chiefs before joining the Chilliwack Chiefs of the British Columbia Hockey League for two seasons. While with Chilliwack, Darling was twice selected as the team's most valuable player, as well as a league all star, and became the first goaltender in league history to score a goal.

The Royals head south for a two game series against the South Carolina Stingrays at the North Charleston Arena this Friday and Saturday night (7:05 pm). Royals' game night broadcasts can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1240 am (and on the internet through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com), beginning thirty minutes before the opening face-off. Streaming video is also available for $6.00 per game through the B2 Networks, which can be accessed through the Royals' website.
