Three Glads Selected as All Stars

The ECHL announced the line up for the American Conference All Stars today for the 2007 RBK ECHL All Star Game in Boise, Idaho. The RBK ECHL All Star Game is on January 17th at 9 p.m. eastern.

Brad Schell and Jon Awe were named starters of the American Conference squad while a third, Colton Fretter, was named a reserve for the team.

Schell makes his first trip to an ECHL All Star Game. The Scott, Saskatchewan native currently leads the ECHL in scoring with 47 points off of 10 goals and 37 assists in 26 games. Schell has posted at least a point in each of the Gladiators past 10 games for the longest scoring streak on the Gladiators this year.

Drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 6th round, #167 overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft and under contract to Atlanta, the 22-year old collected a career best 56 assists last season helping the Gladiators capture the 2006 ECHL American Conference title. Schell made his first trip to the American Hockey League last year appearing in 10 games with the Chicago Wolves recording a goal and 2 assists for 3 points.

Selected for the first time to an ECHL All Star Game, Awe currently ranks second among defensemen in the ECHL in scoring with 27 points off of 11 goals and 16 assists. His 10 power play goals leads all defensemen and ranks second in the ECHL for most power play goals on the season.

The Memphis, Tennessee native attended the Atlanta Thrashers Training camp in September before joining the Gladiators. Awe finished his rookie 2005-06 season with 35 points in 49 games while he split time in the American Hockey League with the Providence Bruins and the Portland Pirates last year.

Fretter will also be making his first appearance to an ECHL All Star Game. A rookie out of Michigan State, Fretter leads all rookies in goals scored this season with 16 markers in 26 games for the Gladiators. He ranks 3rd in scoring on the Gladiators with 29 points and is second among ECHL rookies.

Drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 8th round, #230 overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft and under contract to AHL Chicago, Fretter played four seasons at Michigan State amassing 43 goals and 112 points in 159 career collegiate games.
