Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
PHOENIX, Ariz. - Chris Ferraro tallied a pair of goals in his debut while Todd Jackson and Brett Smith each recorded multiple-point games to lead the Phoenix RoadRunners to a 4-2 win over the Victoria Salmon Kings before 2,972 at US Airways Center in ECHL action Thursday.
Phoenix (15-11-1) jumped out to a 1-0 first period lead. Ferraro collected his own rebound in front of the net and stuffed the puck through the pads of Victoria goaltender Julien Ellis at 7:33 to give the RoadRunners a 1-0 lead.
Milan Gajic netted the equalizer for the Salmon Kings (9-16-1) at 10:56 of the second period. Jordan Krestanovich's lead pass hit Gajic behind the RoadRunners defense on the tape, and Gajic slipped the puck along the ice by goaltender Mike Morrison to tie the game at 1-1. Phoenix regained the lead with a late goal at 16:35. Ferraro's centering feed from the far corner deflected off a Victoria defenseman's stick and trickled behind Ellis and into the net giving the RoadRunners a 2-1 advantage.
Victoria battled back to tie the game at 2-2 at 7:33 of the third when Derek Krestanovich snapped a shot over the right shoulder of Morrison from the slot. But the RoadRunners would tally a pair of power play goals to seal the win. Jackson's push to the net deflected off a Salmon King skate and trickled by Ellis at 9:09 on the power play allowing the RoadRunners to regain the lead at 3-2. Justin Aikins then finished off a three-way play from Jackson and Smith, tipping the puck at the top of the crease by Ellis at 17:09 on the power play to cap the scoring.
Phoenix out-shot Victoria 39-20. Morrison stopped 18 shots to improve to 3-2-0 on the season. The RoadRunners went 2-7 on the power play while Victoria was 0-3 with the man advantage.
