
Shantz selected to All-Star Team

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades announced today that goaltender David Shantz has been selected to represent the American Conference in the 2007 ECHL All-Star Game in Boise, Idaho.
Shantz is in his rookie campaign and has posted a record of 9-2-0 with a 2.97 goals against average and a .906 save percentage in the 12 games he has played this year. The 20-year-old has won his last three starts and is 6-1-0 in his last eight games. A second round draft pick by the Florida Panthers in 2004, Shantz won his first three starts as a pro, allowing just six goals in those games. The Hamilton, Ontario native earned his first professional win on October 21 vs. Texas.
Shantz joined the Everblades for his rookie season after spending the past three years in the Ontario Hockey League with the Mississauga Ice Dogs and Peterborough Petes. In 2005-06 he compiled a 31-14-3 record with a 2.87 GAA in 49 games with the Petes while helping lead them to the OHL title and a trip to the Memorial Cup by posting a 16-3 record with a 2.61 GAA in 19 OHL Playoff games. Overall in his three seasons at the junior level, Shantz compiled a 62-42-10 record.
The 2007 All-Star break begins on Tuesday, January 16 with the All-Star Skills Competition at 9:05 p.m. eastern time. The 2007 RBK Hockey All-Star Game will take place on Wednesday, January 17 at 9:00 p.m. eastern time. The 15th Annual ECHL All-Star Game and the 10th Annual ECHL All-Star Skills Competition will both be held at Qwest Arena in Boise, Idaho, home of the Idaho Steelheads.
