Toledo Walleye News Release
(Cincinnati, Ohio) In four meetings this season between the Toledo Storm
(12-10-1) and the Cincinnati Cyclones (13-10-2), the home team had emerged
victorious, and that storyline held true once again on Thursday night at
U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. Cory Urquhart netted a goal and
assisted on three others as the Cyclones defeated the Storm by a 5-2 final
score in downtown Cincinnati. You can view tonight's box score at this link
Toledo vs. Cincinnati
Like the previous meeting between the two clubs, the Cyclones grabbed the
early lead as Jon Gleed blasted a shot from the blue line past Storm
goaltender Dominic Vicari (L, 28 saves) making it 1-0 Cincinnati. The power
play goal for the Gleed came on the Cyclones first of three man-advantages
in the opening period. The Storm, nonetheless, were able to seize momentum right out of the gate in
the second period, as at the 2:49 mark, Mike James knocked home a rebound
past Cyclones netminder Cedrick Desjardins (W, 26 saves) to tie the game at
1. Matt Zultek and Chris Blight added the assists on the game-tying goal.
Then, just 90 seconds later, Toledo grabbed a lead when Jason Maleyko lifted
the puck over Desjardins to give his team a 2-1 lead. However, the Cyclones
would regain control for the remainder of the period, scoring three times to
take a two goal lead. At 9:08, Rory Rawlyk notched his second goal of the
season to tie the game at 2, followed by a Barrett Ehgoetz tally at 15:07 to
put Cincinnati ahead 3-2. Finally, Jon Gleed floated the puck along the
goal line which eluded Vicari with just 1:06 left in the period to put the
Cyclones up 4-2 through 40 minutes. After two consecutive Cyclones power plays to begin the third period,
Cincinnati added to their total when Cory Urquhart notched his 4th point of
the game when he scored his team-leading 15th goal of the season at 10:14 of
the final frame. The three goal lead was more than enough for Cincinnati as
the Storm were unable to muster any offense the rest of the way. Toledo was
out-shot 33-27 as the Storm fell by the 5-2 final score. The Storm will return home to face the Cyclones once again tomorrow night at
Toledo Sports Arena followed by a Saturday night tilt with the Johnstown
Chiefs. Saturday's game will also be the annual Teddy Bear Toss presented by
Buckeye Cable System. Both games will face-off at 7:35pm with great tickets
