Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release

PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots of the ECHL received some good news today (Thursday) when forward Rob Rankin was named to the American Conference roster for the RBK Hockey ECHL All-Star Game in Boise, Idaho from January 16-18.

Rankin has had an outstanding year for the Ice Pilots with eight goals and four assists for 12 points in 24 games. The Egan, Minnesota native has two power play goals and one shorthanded marker. He has picked up 53 penalty minutes and a plus-minus rating of minus 3.

"I take that as a great honor to represent Pensacola at the ECHL all-star game," Rankin said. "I am surprised with this news, but this would not have happened without the support of my teammates."

Rankin will take part in the skills competition on Tuesday, Jan. 16 and then the all-star game itself on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

"Rob is the epitome of an All-Star," said Ice Pilots Head Coach Joe Clark. "He has skill, he works hard, and he's humble. And I think the trait I like the most in the kid is that he's humble. He'll represent our organization well at the All-Star game."

Rankin is in his first full season with the Ice Pilots after joining the club for the final nine games of the 2005-2006 season. He notched five points in those nine games.

Rankin played his collegiate hockey at Minnesota State University Mankato where he appeared in 106 regular season games and had 23 goals and 26 assists for 49 points and 241 penalty minutes.

Hockey returns to the Hangar tomorrow (Friday) night when the Pensacola Ice Pilots host the Texas Wildcatters at 7:05 pm. There will be a full team autograph session immediately after the game.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday at 7:05 pm. The Ice Pilots will be wearing special Christmas jerseys sponsored by the Ice Pilots Booster Club for both games this weekend. A jersey auction will take place following Saturday's game.
