Storm Topple Titans, 5-3
January 5, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Toledo Walleye News Release
(Toledo, Ohio) Toledo Storm (16-13-1) fell behind early in their game
against the Trenton Titans (14-11-2) but were able to out-duel the visitors
on their way to a 5-3 victory in front of 3,853 at Toledo Sports Arena on
Friday night. The box score from tonight's game can be viewed here
Mike Pandolfo proved why he is third among all ECHL players in points, as he
scored twice in the opening period. The first Trenton goal came at 17:46
when he wristed a shot past Storm netminder Dominic Vicari (W, 25 saves) to
put the visitors up 1-0. Then, just 1 second before the break, Pandolfo
struck again by blasting a shot from the right circle past Vicari to put
Trenton up by a pair through 1 period. The Storm were able to follow suit in the second period, scoring a pair of
goals just 7 minutes apart. The first came off the stick of Jeff Attard,
who tipped home a Tim Songin blueline blast behind Titans goaltender Gregg
Naumenko (L, 36 saves) for his sixth of the season at 9:05. Then, at 16:12,
Attard picked up his second point of the game, dishing a no-look pass to Ken
Magowan who one-timed home the game-tying goal. With a two-all tie through 40 minutes, the Storm took an early third period
lead when Mike James tucked home a rebound past Naumenko at 2:02. However,
the Titans would respond as Mark Pandolfo took a bad angle shot that eluded
Vicari to once again knot things up, 3-3 at the 9:52 mark. Toledo took
advantage of a lucky bounce during the last of their 7 penalty kills, as
Magowan stole a loose puck at his own blue line then carried it the length
of the ice and deposited a backhand shot past Naumenko with 13:11 gone to
put Toledo up 4-3. Magowan's second of the night proved to be the game
winner. Mike James added an empty netter with 14 seconds left to seal a 5-3
victory. The same two teams will go at it again tomorrow night at 7:35pm from Toledo
Sports Arena. Saturday night's game will also be Racing Night at Toledo
Sports Arena. The Storm will wear special racing-themed jerseys sponsored by
Toledo Edison during the game, which will be auctioned off immediately
following the contest to benefit the United Way. Then, on Sunday, the Storm
welcome in the Cincinnati Cyclones with a 3:05pm opening face-off.
Following the game, there will be another post-game skate and autograph
session with Ken Magowan autograph cards to be distributed. Great tickets
for both games are still available by calling 419-691-0200 or online at the
