Falcons MacDonald Named RBC Financial Group Saver Of The Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Ryan MacDonald of the Fresno Falcons is the RBC Financial Group ECHL Saver of the Month of December.

The rookie won his last five games in the month as Fresno extended its winning streak to a team record seven games. MacDonald finished December at 7-0-1 with goals-against average of 1.67 and a save percentage of .948, helping the Falcons into second place in the Pacific Division and third place in the National Conference.

In December the 5-foot-9 and 185-pound MacDonald was 3-0-1 at home and 4-0-0 on the road. He ranks sixth in the ECHL in goals-against average at 2.45 and second in save percentage of .928.

The 21-year-old stopped 40 shots to help Fresno to a 4-1 win at West Division leader Alaska on Dec. 6 and he stopped 37 shots in a 3-1 win against Stockton on Dec. 22. Fresno played Stockton four straight times with MacDonald going 4-0-0 with a 1.75 goals-against average to give the Falcons a four-point lead over Stockton in the Pacific Division.

In his first professional season, the Chesley, Ontario native won Goalie of the Week for Dec. 25-31 after finishing 4-0-0 with a goals-against average of 1.75 and save percentage of .940.

Prior to joining the Falcons MacDonald spent two seasons with London and Guelph in the Ontario Hockey League and was 83-31-7 record with four shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.40 and a save percentage of .916. Last season he was 35-15-4 to set the Guelph record for wins.


Runners Up: Adam Berkhoel, Dayton (9-2-1, 2.11 GAA, .915 save pct.) and Derek Gustafson, Alaska (5-1-1, 2.00 GAA, .929 save pct.).
