Trenton Devils News Release
TOLEDO, OH (January 5, 2007) - The Trenton Titans were outshot 31-12 through the final two periods of regulation as they were defeated by the Toledo Storm, 5-3, in front of 3,853 at the Toledo Sports Arena.
Mike Pandolfo helped the Titans take a 2-0 lead into locker room with two goals late in the first period. As Trenton took a 3-on-2 rush into the Toledo zone, Bryan Miller fed a drop pass to Pandolfo, who ripped a wrist shot into the top shelf at 17:46. Then, with the Titans on a 4-3 power play, the puck was worked around the horn for a Pandolfo one-timer that beat Dominic Vicari with just one second left in the period.
From then on it was all Storm. Jeff Attard got the ball rolling at 9:05 of the second stanza when he batted home the rebound from Tim Songin's point shot. Toledo would the tie score with 3:48 left until the second break as Attard found Ken Magowan alone in the slot for a wrister that beat Gregg Naumenko to the far post.
Mike James and Mark Pandolfo traded goals in the third period to make 3-3 before the Titans went on the power play for the seventh time in the contest. Magowan intercepted Les Haggett's face-off win and took it coast-to-coast before backhanding the shorthanded game-winning goal into the net with 6:49 left in regulation.
James' would seal the deal with fourteen seconds left on an empty-net goal, his second marker of the evening.
Naumenko suffered just his second loss in nine starts, stopping 37 of 41. Trenton went 1-for-7 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
