Manitoba recalls Ellis

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that due to an injury suffered by Goaltender Wade Flaherty, Salmon Kings rookie Netminder Julien Ellis has been recalled to the Manitoba crease.

Ellis, 20, appeared in two games with the Moose and collected a 0.846 save percentage before being reassigned to the Salmon Kings on Oct 31. The native of Sorel, PQ, was selected by Vancouver in round 6 (#189 overall) of the 2004 NHL entry draft.

In 20 games with Victoria, Ellis nabbed 663 saves and earned a 0.900 save percentage. He set a Salmon Kings record with four straight wins, posted three games with 50 or more saves, and was awarded with a selection to the 2007 ECHL All Star Team.

Prior to turning pro, the 6-foot, 177-lb goaltender spent four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the Shawinigan Cataractes and tallied 88 wins, eight shut outs, and an overall goals against average of 2.85, in 173 games. In 2004-05 alone, he posted a 27-21-11 record, four shut outs, and a 0.921 save percentage.

Victoria native Bryan Bridges will control the crease for the Salmon Kings in their road trip which continues tonight versus the Fresno Falcons. In the last visit to the Save Mart Center in Fresno (Dec 17), Bridges posted a 0.931 save percentage.

Following the visits to Fresno, Bakersfield, Las Vegas, and Alaska, the Salmon Kings return home to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for a three-game series versus Bakersfield on Jan 19, 20, and 22.
