Stockton Heat News Release

DES MOINES, Iowa - There were goals aplenty Friday in Des Moines, ultimately Iowa winning a wild affair by an 8-7 final score in overtime over the Stockton Heat. The back-and-forth contest started out all Wild, the home team jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead until Curtis Lazar deposited a pair of goals before the first intermission to even the score into the locker rooms. The teams traded jabs again in the second, each team lighting the lamp twice with Stockton's strikes coming from Mike McMurtry, his first of the season, and Matthew Phillips. The third period was when the scoring boiled over, the teams combining for a remarkable six goals over the first 6:16 of the final frame to produce a 7-7 score that lasted through the final horn of regulation. Iowa scored the first two of the final frame until Stockton rattled off three unanswered, Tyler Graovac, Kerby Rychel and Buddy Robinson all finding twine to grab a 7-6 edge that ultimately lasted just 19 seconds until Justin Kloos tied the game with his third goal and sixth point of the contest. A tripping penalty in overtime proved costly as Iowa deposited its fourth power play tally of the contest 3:18 into the added time, Louis Belpedio claiming the game-winner.
