
Barber Scores in 6-1 Loss to Phantoms

(Hershey, PA) - Riley Barber scored, but the Hershey Bears lost a 6-1 decision on Saturday night to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms at Giant Center in front of 9,361 fans. The defeat marked the Bears fourth loss in five tries against the Phantoms this season.
Lehigh Valley opened the scoring only 5:44 into the game. Tyrell Goulbourne scored his first of two goals on the night with a snap shot past Ilya Samsonov on an offensive zone rush. The Bears appeared to be heading into intermission down 1-0, but Barber's 11th goal of the season came with 1.9 second left on the clock. Barber's quick release broke a shutout streak against the Phantoms of 167:17, which dated back to November 23. Shots on goal were 9-3 Lehigh Valley with the score tied at 1-1.
The Phantoms tallied three times in the second stanza to take a commanding 4-1 lead after 40 minutes. At 4:17, Zach Palmquist blasted his second goal of the season past Samsonov front the left point. Only 48 seconds later, Goulbourne added his second tally of the game and third of the season after redirecting a shot from Philippe Myers. Lehigh Valley's lead expanded to 4-1 at 14:45 when Carsen Twarynski tallied on a drive from the right wing past Samsonov. Shots after 40 minutes were 19-13 Phantoms.
In the third, Taylor Leier added a pair of goals for Lehigh Valley at 9:03 and 11:25 to round out a 6-1 final. Final shots were 30-22. The Hershey Bears return to the ice following their holiday break on Friday, December 28 against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Voice of the Bears Zack Fisch will have the call on the Bears Radio Network.
