
Mississippi Grabs First Place in Southwest Division

BILOXI, Miss. â The Mississippi Sea Wolves took two of three weekend games to take a two-point lead for first place in the Southwest Division standings.
The weekend didn't start well for the Sea Wolves. On Friday, Arkansas edged Mississippi 4-3 at the Wolves Den. The Sea Wolves bounced back with a 3-1 win on Saturday at Pensacola. Then Sunday, Mississippi topped Louisiana 4-3, to cap off the weekend.

*Broadcast follows football on Q 92.5 and across internet at MsSeaWolves.com It's the only meeting between the Sea Wolves and defending Kelly Cup Champion Greenville Grrrowl this season. It's the first game since last season's Southern Conference Finals match-up, which Greenville won three games to one. Mississippi leads the all-time head-to-head record 5-1-1. Last season, Greenville took the only regular season meeting, 2-1 at the Wolves Den on December 8, 2001.

Player of the Week:
Defenseman Jim Baxter scored a goal in each of the three Sea Wolves weekend games. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound native of Brantford, Ontario leads all East Coast Hockey League defenseman with 14 points. He scored one goal in the loss Friday against Arkansas. On Saturday, Baxter registered one goal and added an assist to go along with a fighting major and plus-2 rating in the win at Pensacola. The 23-year-old tallied the opening goal in the win at home against Louisiana. Baxter has points in five straight games and goals over the past four contests.
Goaltender of the Week:
Greg Gardner continues his streak of appearing in all 11 Sea Wolves games this season. The 6-foot, 190-pound native of Mississauga, Ontario went 2-1-0 over the three games, improving his overall record to 8-3-0. During the weekend contests, Gardner posted 121 saves on 129 shots, for an outstanding .938 save percentage and 2.67 goals against average.
Injured Reserve:
Defenseman Austin Miller and forward Cody Bowtell are on 7-day injured reserve. Goaltender Mike Buckley along with defensemen David Cornacchia and Steve Bewley remain on the 30-day IR.
Streaking Sea Wolves:
Defenseman Jim Baxter has points in five consecutive games (4g-3a), and goals in four straight (4g).
Veteran forward Steffon Walby has a four-game points streak (3g-5a), and assists in four games (5a).
