Ex-RiverBlade plays in the NHL

November 4, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Arkansas RiverBlades News Release

The Arkansas RiverBlades would like to congratulate former player Vernon Fiddler, who, this past weekend, became the first former RiverBlade to play in the NHL.

In his NHL debut with the Nashville Predators Saturday, Fiddler had two shots and an even rating in the Preds' 6-5 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings. Then, Sunday, he had two penalty minutes and an even rating in another overtime loss, 2-1, to the Phoenix Coyotes.

Fiddler, a 5-11, 195-pound center from Edmonton, Alberta, had a brief stint with the RiverBlades during the 2000-2001 campaign, where he recorded one assist in the last three regular-season games.

Vernon scored his first professional goal in Game 2 of the RiverBlades' first-ever playoff series against the Baton Rouge Kingfish. That goal, scored late in the 2nd period, broke a 2-2 tie and put Arkansas in front to stay. The RiverBlades won the game 4-3, clinching their first and only playoff series win. Fiddler went on to score two more goals in the next series against the eventual Kelly Cup Champions, the South Carolina Stingrays. Fiddler's 3 goals rank him 2nd in RiverBlades history in postseason scoring.
