Baton Rouge Kingfish News Release
The Kingfish and the Bandits combined for just 10 penalty minutes in Saturday's contest, the lowest combined total for the Kingfish and an opponent this season. It was the complete opposite on Sunday as the Kingfish and the Bandits combined for 151 penalty minutes, the highest combined total for the Kingfish and an opponent this season. Eighty of the 151 minutes came within the last 10 seconds of the end of the game.
Throw Politeness out the Window: Kingfish defenseman Garnet Jacobson picked up 17 penalty minutes on Sunday against Jackson, moving him into sixth place for most penalty minutes as a Kingfish with 238 passing Chris LiPuma. Jacobson is 8 penalty minutes shy of fifth place behind Jon Rempel (246).
On the Man Advantage: The Kingfish have been held off the scoreboard for the past three games while on the man advantage. They began the weekend in third place in the ECHL, converting on 25% of their power play opportunities. The Kingfish are currently in 12th place, converting on 19.7 % of their power play opportunities.
Second Period: The Kingfish scored two-second period goals in Saturday's 5-4 loss at Jackson. Just the second and third second period goals all season for the Kingfish after tallying six on opening night against the Bandits. Jackson is the only team to surrender second period goals to the Kingfish this season.
The Rookie Help: Wes Scanzano continues to pick up points here and there and is currently in 9th among rookies in scoring with 9 points. Scanzano picked up another goal in Saturday's 5-4 loss at Jackson, pushing his total to 4 goals on the season.
Milestones: Kingfish forward Bryan Richardson needs just 5 assists for 100 as a Kingfish. He is currently 3rd for most assists as a Kingfish behind Cam Brown (158), and Jon Sturgis (101). 20 goals this season will give Richardson 100 goals as a Kingfish. Richardson is just 14 goals shy of the 100-goal plateau. Richardson is second only to Kingfish Head Coach Cam Brown (103) for goals scored as a Kingfish. Brown owns the franchise record with 139 goals.
Leaders: Clark Jones leads the Kingfish in scoring with 10 points off 5 goals and 5 assists. Trevor Demmans and Wes Scanzano are tied for second with 9 points apiece. Demmans' 9 points places him in 7th place among defensemen in scoring in the ECHL.

November 1, 2002 - @ Pensacola 2, Baton Rouge 1 (ot)
Ice Pilots took the 1-0 lead at the 16:24 mark of the second period on a power play goal. Kingfish battled back and tied the game on a goal by Jesse Ferguson at the 8:56 mark of the third period to send the game to overtime. Kingfish had a couple of chances late in the third period and in the overtime session but could not punch one past Gingras. Pensacola picked up the overtime win on a backhand over Jeff Blair's shoulder with just 1:57 remaining in the overtime session.
November 2, 2002 - @ Jackson 5, Baton Rouge 4
Jackson jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period. Kingfish tied the game up at 2-2 in the second before giving up a goal late in the period giving the Bandits the 3-2 lead after two periods. Jackson opened up another two-goal lead early in the third before the Kingfish tied the game up at the midway mark of the period. Brian Forslund scored the game winner with about two minutes left in the third to give the Bandits the win.
November 3, 2002 â Jackson 2, Baton Rogue 0
One goal was all the Bandits needed as Jackson shutout the Kingfish in the second meeting in as many days. Sean O'Connor scored the game winner with about five minutes left in the first period. The Bandits added an insurance goal in the third period as Paxton Schafer made 28 saves in the losing effort. Over eighty minutes of penalty minutes were doled out over the last 10 seconds of the contest.

Tuesday, November 5, 2002 â vs. Columbia Inferno, 7:05 p.m. (104.5, WZRB)
First non-divisional game for the Kingfish this season. Columbia leads all time series 1-0-0. Inferno won the only meeting ever last season with a 4-2 win in Columbia on October 18, 2001. Columbia is currently in 2nd place in the Southeastern division with a 7-4-0 record and 14 points.
Saturday, November 9, 2002 â vs. Pensacola Ice Pilots, 7:05 p.m. (sportsjuice.com)
Ice Pilots first trip to the Fish Tank this season. Pensacola has won both meeting this season, both in Pensacola. Kingfish last beat the Ice Pilots in Baton Rouge on February 9, 2002 as Brian Leitza shutout Pensacola 3-0.
Sunday, November 10, 2002 â vs. Arkansas Riverblades, 4:05 p.m. (104.5, WZRB)
First meeting of the season between Southwestern division rivals. Kingfish last beat the Riverblades in Baton Rouge, 2-1, on November 22, 2001. Arkansas won last season's series as the Kingfish went 2-6-2, winning both games in the âFish Tank'. Arkansas is in second place in the Southwestern division with 14 points, two behind Mississippi and one up on third place Louisiana.
