UPCOMING WEEK: Coming off a record-setting night in Charlotte, the Generals only have two games this week. Greensboro visits the Roanoke Express this Friday night at 7:35. The Generals earned a tie in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Express in their only other meeting thus far. On Saturday, the southeast division leader Pee Dee Pride come to town for the second time in as many weeks, and the final time this season. Greensboro dropped a 4-2 decision to Pee Dee on Halloween night.

Saturday's contest is Hanes Kids Club night. The first 1,000 children at Saturday's game will receive a Hanes/Generals Hockey Stress Puck at the turnstiles. Children will also receive coupons for Hanes products at K-Mart. All games this season can be heard on the Generals new flagship radio station, WPET AM-950. LAST WEEK: 10/31 PEE DEE 4, GREENSBORO 2 ¨ Despite a goal from Chris Bell just 39 seconds into the game, the Generals were unable to stop the Pride. Sam Ftorek scored the Generals other goal.

11/1 LEXINGTON 2, GREENSBORO 3 ¨ The fans were treated to an extremely entertaining contest and went home winners. Sam Ftorek put the Gens on top 1-0 just five minutes into the game. It stayed that way until midway through the second period, when a flurry of three goals just 37 seconds apart quickly brought the score to 2-2. Lexington would tie the game with a goal by Mike Sgroi, only to have the Generals answer 29 seconds later on a score by Chris Bell. Just eight seconds later, Lexington's Van Burgess countered to tie the score. At the 15:21 mark of the second period, Vlad Serov would score the eventual game-winning goal on a breakaway feed from Chris Bell. Goaltender Daniel Berthiaume, who was spectacular in a 31-save performance, also notched an assist on the game-winning goal

11/2 GREENSBORO 8, CHARLOTTE 2 ¨ The Generals exorcised some demons in a dismantling of their in-state rival Checkers. The Generals got four goals in the opening eleven minutes of the game and never looked back. Both Pete Gardiner and Chris Bell notched a hat trick and an assist, while Sam Ftorek netted a pair of power play goals. Special teams was a big factor in the convincing victory, with Greensboro scoring three goals with the man advantage and adding a shorthanded goal.

TRANSACTIONS: 10/31 Placed right wing Jay Murphy on the 7-day injured list.

10/31 Activated defenseman Roman Marakhovski from the 7-day injured list.

11/2 Activated left wing Matt Turek from the 7-day injured list.

APPEARANCES: "Generals University" is in session this Wednesday at Bessemer Elementary School in Greensboro.

NOTABLES:

¨ The Generals tied a franchise record with eight goals last Saturday night against Charlotte. The last time they scored eight goals in a game was against the Trenton Titans on February 2, 2001.

¨ The six-goal margin of victory also tied a franchise best. The Generals defeated the Richmond Renegades 7-1 on January 20, 2001.

¨ The eight goals and six-goal margin of victory were both franchise records on the road.

¨ Pete Gardiner and Chris Bell's hat tricks marked the first Generals hat tricks since January 20, 2001, when Curtis Huppe netted four goals the aforementioned win over Richmond.

¨ Gardiner and Bell's hat trick goals were scored just eight seconds apart, setting a franchise record for fastest two goals in a game.

¨ Daniel Berthiaume set a Generals all-time record for assists by a goaltender in just his eighth game, recording his third helper of the year on Saturday.

¨ Prior to last Saturday, Greensboro had not beaten the Charlotte Checkers in regulation since a 4-3 triumph on March 31, 2000. The victory ended a streak in which Charlotte had gained at least one point in 20 straight games against the Generals. Greensboro posted one overtime win in ten games against Charlotte in each of the past two seasons.

¨ David Whitworth has notched a point in seven straight games, notching eight points (3g, 5a) in that span.

¨ Sam Ftorek is tied for the league lead with six power play goals.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES:

PLAYER: Chris Bell — Bell had a spectacular week. Entering last week without a single goal, Bell lit the lamp five times and added two assists for seven points in three games, chipping in a +5 rating for good measure. After a goal against Pee Dee and a goal and assist versus Lexington, Bell's week was topped off with a hat trick, an assist, and a +4 rating in the Generals' 8-2 demolition of Charlotte on Saturday.

GOALIE: Daniel Berthiaume — Berthiaume was a perfect 2-0-0 for the week with a 2.00 goals against average and .939 save percentage. He saved 31 of 33 shots both Friday and Saturday to pick up the victories. Berthiaume also had an assist in both games, including on Vlad Serov's game-winning goal on Friday against Lexington. Berthiaume is now just seven wins shy of 300 for his career.
