San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls (5-4-1) began the week losing to the Fresno Falcons, extending their losing streak to five games. The Blue and Orange remain in second place, four points behind the front-running Idaho Steelheads.
R.J. Enga, coming off a four-point night against the Bakersfield Condors Saturday, leads the West Coast Hockey League with 14 points... His four-point game Saturday was the 15th of his career... Former NHLer Mark Pederson is second in the league with seven goals and first with four game-winning tallies... Pederson has now scored a point in six consecutive games... LAST WEEK:
GULLS 4, Fresno 6; at Fresno, Tuesday, Oct. 29: Fresno had four players with multipoint games and barely outlasted the struggling Gulls, who lost for the fifth straight time. The Falcons had four two-goal leads during the contest, but whenever San Diego tried to come back, Fresno had an answer. The offense, which was all but silent in its previous four games, did come alive however. Dean Tiltgen led the way with two goals and one assist.
GULLS 2, Idaho 1; at San Diego, Friday, Nov. 1: San Diego finally broke its winless streak with a convincing victory over the first-place Steelheads. The Gulls only won by one goal, but dominated the game, out-shooting Idaho 42-22. Sandro Sbrocca and Pederson netted goals for San Diego and Cory Morgan got the lone tally for Idaho. Jason Cugnet, who made some spectacular saves, stopped 40 shots.
GULLS 4, Bakersfield 1; at Bakersfield, Saturday, Nov. 2: Enga notched two goals and two assists leading the Blue and Orange to an easy three-goal victory.
The Gulls jumped out 4-0 before the Condors finally solved Trevor Koenig midway through the third period. Both teams went 1 for 8 on the power play.
